The 2022 UNWTO Students’ League Switzerland, that started back in October, sponsored by the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, attracted young people from different prestigious Universities in Switzerland: SHMS- Swiss Hotel Management School; César-Ritz colleagues Switzerland; SHL- Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern and ZHAW-Zurich University of applied Science. The schools were represented by Teams of 5 students , who proved once again why Youth is a voice to be taken into serious consideration and why these 25 young people are set to become fantastic stakeholders in the Tourism sector after presenting the best written solution to the UNWTO challenge, “Off the Beaten track”.
After 6 weeks working on their challenge solution and a 1st evaluation from the Jury Panel that ended in a very tight scoreboard, the students then pitched their solution live to the Jury in the Final4 organized for 8 December and hosted by the School of Life Sciences and Facility Management at ZHAW University where Prof. Dr. Urs Hilber, Dean, School of Life Sciences and Facility Management at ZHAW; Zoritsa Urosevic, Executive Director at UNWTO (participating online); Richard Kämpf, Head of Tourism Unit at the State Secretariat for Economic Affairs SECO, expressed their support to young talent development and the need for a more sustainable Tourism sector.
The Jury Panel, composed by Ana Martin from UNWTO; Andreas Kunz from St.Gallen-Bodensee Tourismus (training partner and sponsor); Christoph Schlumpf from SECO; Kevin Sigliano from GoodRebels/Admira.com and Salvatore Cavallaro from EU Tech Chamber and former winner of the 2021 UNWTO Students League, evaluated this last stage that gave us the winning Team of the 2022 UNWTO Students’ League-Switzerland: Team SHL from SHL- Schweizerische Hotelfachschule Luzern
Before the awarding ceremony, the students enjoyed an amazing traditional Swiss technique, how to Yodel, a vital form of communication for Alpine Communities. They had so much fun!!
The winners will receive many prizes ranging from participating in the Tourism Forum Switzerland – high level event of the National Tourism Policy, internships and discovering the hidden gems in one of the Sponsors – St.Gallen-Bodensee destination and discounted rates on Foodward Foundation training courses.
Congratulations to all the participants for their great projects and presentations and specially for the winning team to become the National team to represent Switzerland in the UNWTO Students’ league Grand Global Final!!!
